BACS payments files (in standard 18 format) are not in scope to be migrated to iso20022 (xml) formats.

i have a client case where we would like to pay BACS via xml format but the payrol provide cannot provide it.

I tried to find a xml converter without succes. Anybody aware of a BACS to xml converter ?

    thanks for the help.

    Hi Patrick,

I have spoken with the company in Spain that specializes in the processing of ISO20022 messages and they see it as feasible to help your client with this exchange of formats.
It is essential to know the technical specifications of the project, such as whether they want an automatic (or unattended) converter or one with manual intervention (desktop application), via API or via web…etc.
In any case, the BACS formats are open and their conversion to XML format does not seem to be a technological challenge that is too complicated for them.
Do you think we could organize a call with them to see their requirement in more detail?
    Best regards

Thanks Ignacio, happy to get introduced to them.

For this client it might be solved with an ERP to XML converter. Bacs files often have missing information like BIC codes (bacs only has sort codes) and bacs is less suitable payment method for payroll anyway (3 day settlement). So we are looking into ERP to XML and use FAST payment.

Thanks for your help!!! appreciate it.

    Hi Pat and Ignacio,

I have a CSV to XML base script, so the customer would use a CSV template to fill in the BACs details (very straightforward and user friendly) which are mapped to relevant XML tags. To your point, it is better to enrich this template / script to be dynamic with buttons for BACs / FASTER / CHAPS / SEPA formatting (as Pat mentioned Sort -> BIC) – this would ideally happen from the source data and included in the template. Of course, the base script will need to be adjusted according to the relevant bank specifications.

Let me know if you’re interested in discussing here should you run into any issues while working on this.

    Cheers

    Hi both of you,

Thank you David for your suggestion.
If I understand correctly, this CSV is the one you use to make your BACS payments in XML format. If so, it may be a solution for Patrick’s client.
In any case, Patrick, I am giving you the contacts of my suppliers who will be able to help you analyze the need and propose alternatives, given that they are used to working with banks for their corporate solutions.

Hi Ignacio & Pat – following up here to see if the macros script might be of use.

    Best,
    David
