If you are less of a visual person, here are the ten dimensions of LinkedIn profile success with more color:

  • Headline– you need to catch people’s attention, make yours unique.
  • Photo– seem like common sense, but professional with a bit of your personality included.
  • Banner– convey something current and professional that matters to you.
  • About Statement– this feature never gets its due. This conveys who you do what you do.
  • Your Reach-this is conveyed by the amount of connections or followers you have, connections matter more as follower counts can be “gamed” much more easily.
  • Your Value– you can demonstrate this by the information you share in the Resources area of your LinkedIn profile.
  • LinkedIn Activity– posting and commenting on LinkedIn conveys your passion for learning and sharing as well as the knowledge you share.
  • Experience– highlight your experience that puts you in the best light and shows what you have done and how you have made it happen.
  • Recommendations– the most under rated feature of a LinkedIn profile. Recommendations are what really set you apart from your professional peers. The goal is having many more than you give and have at least one from someone who has worked with you, worked for you, and who you have reported to directly.
  • Interests– this area of your profile let’s people see what matters to really matters to you professionally.

In closing, I want to share a trick I use to keep my LinkedIn profile compelling, look at the profiles of your peers and “borrow” ideas from those profiles that really resonate with you.
